Career Experience
Greetings students. I originally worked as a financial advisor and taught people of all ages how to become financially successful. Now I’m in the process of becoming a licensed chemistry teacher in the state of Florida and looking to share my passion for chemistry and science. I have lab experience in acoustic interferometry, NMR/IR spectroscopy, and electrophoresis, but my greatest asset when it comes to tutoring is being able to present complex problems in a way that’s easy and fun to understand. Having trouble remembering the shape of d-orbitals? Just remember d for dandelion (or flower shape). What’s the most expensive element on the periodic table? Fancy Francium. Simple tricks like this during a test can help you remember crucial concepts that will be more thoroughly explored in future chemistry classes. If you’re the type of student who doesn’t like to play games and would like to understand at a conceptual level why the d-orbitals, for example, are shaped like a flower then we can discuss radial and planar nodes as well as wave particle duality and probability. I adjust to the personalities and needs of my students and genuinely want chemistry to be as fun and exciting for my students as it is for me. It’s this patience, energy, and flexibility that makes me an effective tutor.
I Love Tutoring Because
I enjoy making the subject of chemistry one that is easy and fun to understand. Chemistry problems can be tough to work through, but sometimes it just takes the right explanation presented in a simple, easy to understand way, and without complex scientific terminology that can be confusing. As a recent honors graduate, I know what the expectations are at the university level and have mentored students in everything from high school chemistry to upper division university level physical and inorganic chemistry. I love the challenge of explaining these concepts because not only am I helping others understand the inner workings of the universe at a sub-atomic level, but I also strongly agree with Albert Einstein's belief that "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough".
